Tanka 2

Wild violets grew
Along the dirt road’s hillside
Shrinking, they were not
When picked by Mother in May
To brighten our old kitchen

Tanka 1

kind wolf tried to mend
eagle’s bitter troubled soul
with a loving heart
when the time came for eagle 
to fly, wolf blest her tired wings
